How to Setup Browse Abandonment Flow ?

Re-engage Visitors with Convertway’s Browse Abandonment Flow

Have you ever noticed visitors browsing your website, checking out your products, but leaving without taking any action? Convertway's Browse Abandonment Templates are here to help you bring those visitors back and turn them into paying customers!

What is Browse Abandonment?

Browse abandonment happens when a customer visits your website, explores product pages, but leaves without adding items to their cart. These visitors show buying intent but need a nudge to come back and complete the purchase.

With our new Custom Flows, you can now automate browse abandonment messages across WhatsApp & SMS, and re-engage visitors who showed interest in your products but didn't complete a purchase. Let’s see how!

How Does it work?

When a customer views products on your website but doesn’t take further action within a set time frame, they’ll receive a browse abandonment message about the last viewed product.

For example, if a customer browses a shirt, then a skirt, a scarf, and revisits the shirt, the message will be for the shirt since it’s the last viewed item.

The flow ends when the customer:

Adds a product to their cart

Places an order

Abandons the cart

We take customer data with the help of Web pixel in Shopify based on customer events of your store. To send your customers a browse abandonment message we need to collect their phone numbers which are collected in either of the 3 cases:

When a customer is logged in and has added a phone number (synced from Shopify).

When your opt-in form is enabled in the Convertway app and the customer subscribes.

Note: This applies only to customers who subscribe after you enable the Browse Abandonment Flow.

When a customer places an order and provides their phone number.

How to set up Browse Abandonment Flow?

Step 1: Upgrade the Convertway App

The first step to setting up a Browse Abandonment Flow is upgrading your Convertway app. This will grant us access to both write_pixel and read_customer_events permissions.

Step 2: Define the Trigger

Go to Flows.

Click on Build from Scratch.

Enter a unique name for your new flow to get started.

Step 3: Define the Trigger

Click on Flow Triggers to open the trigger options.

From the Select Triggers drop-down menu, pick the Browse Abandoned trigger.

Set the trigger time — Trigger time refers to the duration since the last product was viewed, during which the user has not taken any further action.

You can also control how frequently a customer receives the message by enabling Frequency. For example, setting Flow will be triggered 1 time in the last 15 days ensures the message is sent only once in 15 days, regardless of how many times the trigger condition is met.

Click Save to confirm your trigger settings.

Note: Once saved, you won’t be able to edit the trigger

Step 4: Send Message

Now, you need to choose the browse abandonment message template.

Click the + button and select Send Message.

Pick the communication channel- WhatsApp or SMS.

Note: You can send both WhatsApp and SMS messages within the same flow by setting them up sequentially.

Select a template for the message you'd like to send. You can choose from any of the pre-set templates that include the following variables:

viewed_product_name: Name of the last viewed product.

viewed_product_url: URL to the last viewed product.

viewed_product_price: Cost of the last viewed product.

When choosing a WhatsApp template, you can either use the pre-set Convertway templates or create your own customized templates from the Templates field. Once approved, select them from the drop-down menu.

For SMS, simply create a template under the Custom Template option from the drop-down. This feature is available for International clients and Indian clients with an approved sender ID.

You can incentivize your message by adding a discount, a discount code, a CTA button value, or media, either dynamic or static, to accompany the template.

When adding media to a message, keep in mind:
Selecting Static allows you to upload a custom image to send with the message.
Selecting Dynamic automatically includes the relevant product image with the message.

Step 5: Analyze Your Performance

To measure the success of your Browse Abandonment Flow you get two kinds of metrics:

Top 5 Most Viewed Products: Go to Analytics > Browse Abandonment to identify your most viewed products.

Browse Abandonment Flow Performance: Check detailed data under Flows > Custom for your specific flow.

Metrics Tracked:

Total Recovered: This is the number of orders placed by customers through the Browse Abandonment Messages.

Amount Recovered: This is the total sum of the order value of orders placed by customers through the Browse Abandonment Messages.

Messages Sent: This is the total number of notifications sent for Browse Abandonment

Recovered Order Logs: Detailed order information, including Order ID, Customer Name, Order Value, and Order Date.

Template Analytics: Detailed template performance data, including channel, message sent, clicks, orders, and recovered amount.
