Sender id Registration Process(DLT) for Sending SMS to India
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated all entities that want to send SMS to register their organizations, headers, and templates along with required consent information, on distributed ledger technology (DLT) platforms to curb unsolicited commercial communication (UCC).
Here's how to do that:
Step 1 — Get unique Entity ID
Register on any of the DLT platforms below by filling in the required information to get a temporary ID. After verification of your documents, the operator will provide you with a unique Entity ID.
Note:
In order to start sending SMS campaigns via own sender ID you need to have the following
DLT registration
(Entity Number)
1. DLT Registration - you need to have a DLT registration , which is provided by network provider

According to customer feedback so far, Jio seems to have a shorter and easier registration process than the others.
U need to register as:-
Enterprise / principal Entity – A commercial business (individual or company) dealing with products or services, who would like to communicate with their customers through SMS or voice.
2. Add Header or Sender ID
Header is a unique combination of six characters representing the brand or company name of the message sender. Header was earlier known as Sender ID. In the revised TRAI DLT regulations for Bulk SMS, Sender ID is denoted by the term Header.
Header Types for different SMS categories
1. Promotional: These messages are related to marketing purposes and are intended for promoting a product or a service. Promotional SMS are sent to the Non DND numbers. Headers for sending Promotional SMS should be of six numeric digits and based on the business category.
Header Examples for Promotional SMS: 562993, 248751, 495573, 583985, 784321
2. Others: The Others category comprise of Transactional, Service Implicit and Service Explicit. Headers for sending Transactional, Service Implicit and Service Explicit messages should be of six alphabetical characters. These Headers are case-sensitive.
Header Examples for Others SMS: FSTSMS, fstsms, FstSMS, DLTDLt, dltdlt
Transactional: As per the latest TRAI Guidelines, only the OTP SMS sent by banks will come under the category of Transactional SMS. Transactional SMS can be used only by banks for sending One Time Password (OTP) to its clients. All banks including National/Scheduled/Government/Private and MNC Banks can send OTP to their clients from the Transactional route
Service Implicit: Informative messages other than Banks OTP will come under this category. Important notifications such as purchase updates, order alerts, payment status, reminders, booking confirmations, OTP SMS from other sites, and other crucial updates will fall in the Service Implicit category.
Service Explicit: Sending offer/marketing SMS to your registered users will come under this category. These SMS can only be sent to the registered customers after receiving their consent.
It can take 3-7 working days for headers approval from network operators
Step - 3 How to add Consent Template
Consent is a permission given by the end customer to a principal entity (PE) to receive SMS related to a specific purpose or a product or service. The New TRAI Regulation has made it mandatory for companies to obtain consent from their customers before sending them SMS. Every Principal Entity is required to register its consent template on the DLT SMS platform before sending SMS to the clients.
Consent has to be given only for Promotional and Service Explicit SMS. It is not required for Transactional and Service Implicit messages.
Message Types
Promotional: It refers to marketing messages sent by businesses to promote their product or service. As per the DLT TRAI Guidelines, promotional SMS will be delivered to Non DND numbers only with 6 digit numeric Sender ID.
Transactional: Transactional route is reserved for Banks for sending OTP only. No company or organization can use this route. Banks can use this route for sending OTP SMS only. It cannot be used by Banks for sending transaction related messages such as amount debited or credited, account status, payment updates, etc. No consent is required as this route is reserved for Banks only.
Service Implicit: Companies, Business organizations, Banks can send informative messages related to product or service from this route. Important notifications such as login details, OTP for website login, order updates, payment confirmations, service update messages comes under the Service Implicit category. No consent is required.
Service Explicit: SMS sent to the registered clients after obtaining their consent will come under the Service Explicit category. It can include offers, updates on products and services. Consent is mandatory in case of Service Explicit.
